Division of Nephrology

The Division of Nephrology staffs an inpatient renal and transplantation service at the Medical College of Georgia - Âé¶¹¹û¶³´«Ã½.

Consult services at Medical College of Georgia - Âé¶¹¹û¶³´«Ã½ and the VA Medical Center cover the spectrum of acute and chronic renal failure, acid-base/electrolyte disorders, immunologic renal disease, hypertension and renal artery disease.

Outpatient activities include the hemodialysis center and clinics in renal transplantation, peritoneal dialysis follow-up and general nephrology. Conferences include nephrology grand rounds, renal biopsy, renal imaging, journal club and problem case conferences. Opportunities for clinical research are available with current areas of interest including dialysis, hypertension, transplant immunosuppression, renal osteodystrophy and renal-endocrine interactions.

Mission Statement

Our mission statement is to promote exceptional care for patients with renal diseases by maintaining high standards for education & enhancing the skills, knowledge and professional competence of our trainees and nephrologists; to engage in biomedical research related to the kidney, kidney disorders and renal replacement therapies & transplantation; and to improve the delivery of nephrology healthcare in the community.

Renal disease is an epidemic in the Southeastern US. Leading causes of kidney failure are high blood pressure and diabetes. At Medical College of Georgia - Âé¶¹¹û¶³´«Ã½, we have scientists and clinicians working to find cures and therapies to reduce kidney failure and improve access to transplantation.
