Surgical Education & Training
The Surgery Department at the Medical College of Georgia at 麻豆果冻传媒 is proud to offer a wide variety of innovative surgical education programs across the entire continuum of training and surgical practice.
This begins with our core clerkships and acting intern experiences for the students at the Medical College of Georgia. Each student will rotate on a general surgery service as well as a surgical subspecialty. During these rotations, they will gain experience with a broad variety of surgical pathology and be well prepared to enter residency with a strong grounding in the management of surgical disease. Additionally, for those students interested in general surgery and other surgical subspecialties, we offer an inter preparatory course during the fourth year of medical school.
We have two ACGME approved residency training programs in the department of surgery. The General Surgery Residency is an immersive five year clinical experience with the opportunity to rotate in both academic and community hospital settings, where residents can gain exposure and experience to all aspects of surgical care. Similarly, our Urology Residency Program provides outstanding training across multiple sites with exposure to all aspects of urological disease. Additionally, there is currently one fellowship within the department in Surgical Critical Care. The Critical Care Fellowship is an ACGME accredited fellowship that trains leaders in the field of surgical critical care through a robust 12 month clinical experience.
Lastly, our Department offers a variety of CME opportunities for surgeons in practice. The annual meeting of the Moretz Surgical Society, for graduates of the training program at MCG, is a great opportunity for surgeons in practice throughout the country to reconnect with their colleagues from training and learn about the latest research and clinical work being performed at MCG. Additionally, we are building our opportunities for hands-on-training and longitudinal mentorship for surgeons in practice in a variety of surgical techniques.

Surgical Critical Care Clerkship
The program utilizes the guidelines established by the Society of Critical Care Medicine in an effort to ensure a well -rounded exposure to all aspects of the discipline of surgical critical care. We are committed to producing well-rounded leaders who, in turn, will influence the next generation of care-providers by leading by example in the clinical setting, and providing quality education and scholarship.
