Dermatology Residency 2023-2024

Our Dermatology Residency Program:

Our dermatology residency program is a fully accredited three-year training program approved by the American Board of Dermatology.  Upon successful completion of this training program, the candidate is eligible for examination leading to certification by the American Board of Dermatology.

The training program provides residents with extensive clinical experience under the supervision of full-time faculty members.  Each resident has their own resident clinic every other week.  This way they can treat and see the changes in each and every one of their patients.  The close integration of clinic and basic science activities is designed to give residents a solid foundation in the fundamentals of dermatologic pathophysiology so that these principles can be applied to the care of patients.

The Department of Dermatology at the Medical College of Georgia 鈥 麻豆果冻传媒 is committed to teaching residents.  Over the 50+ decades, over 160 residents have trained here.

Educational Activities

In addition to clinical activities, residents participate in educational activities including Grand Rounds, didactic sessions, journal club, and other educational conferences.  Residents are allowed to engage in research projects during their training here.

All residents are expected to participate in teaching of dermatology to others, including:  Internal Medicine and Pediatric residents, medical students and observers.  At the end of the medical students鈥 rotation they evaluate each resident based on their teaching ability.  These evaluations are tabulated in June.  The resident deemed the best will be named Resident Teacher of the Year and will be recognized as the 鈥淢arshall Guill, MD Teacher of the Year鈥.  Dr. Guill was an esteemed faculty member for many years and makes this recognition possible.

Measurement of successful attainment of learning objectives occurs through the resident evaluation by faculty and staff through the The ACGME Milestones evaluate residents progressively from the beginning of their education through graduation to the unsupervised practice of their specialties.  Additionally, resident progress is evaluated annually through the ABD in-training examination.  Residents receiving 65% or above on the in-service exam are recognized for their achievement.
